Anne Akiko Meyers premieres Rautavaara’s Fantasia

March 24, 25, & 26, Anne Akiko Meyers gives the world premiere of Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Fantasia (2015) for violin and orchestra in her debut with the Kansas City Symphony led by Maestro Michael Stern. Meyers commissioned the work and it was one of Rautavaara’s last to be written before he passed away in July 2016. Meyers wrote about meeting and working with him in Gramophone Magazine.

On March 18, The Colburn School recognized Anne Akiko Meyers with the Distinguished Alumni Award and she performed with current students in Zipper Hall as part of their annual Taste of Colburn event.

On March 31 and April 1 she returns to the Nashville Symphony to perform Leonard Bernstein’s Serenade led by their music director Giancarlo Guerrero. She recorded the work on her Serenade: The Love Album.

In April, she presents recitals at the 92nd Street Y, EMPAC at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and the Phillips Collection in Washington also featuring the Rautavaara in a version for violin and piano.
