Neave Trio
Biography
downloadPraised for performances that “balance passion with sensitivity and grace” (BBC Music Magazine), the two-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated Neave Trio is known for its fiery connection, exuberance, and a shared sense of storytelling that reflects the deep human bonds at the core of chamber music. New York’s WQXR explains, “‘Neave’ is actually a Gaelic name meaning ‘bright’ and ‘radiant,’ both of which certainly apply to this trio’s music making.” The Trio’s recordings have been named among the best recordings of the year by both The New York Times and BBC Radio 3, and Gramophone applauds their performances as “thrilling” and “electrifying.” Their latest release, La Mer (Chandos 2025), has been nominated for a 2026 GRAMMY® Award in the Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble category.
Formed in 2010, the Neave Trio has performed at esteemed concert series and festivals worldwide, including Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Kaatsbaan Summer Festival, Bard Music Festival, Rockport Chamber Music Festival, La Jolla Athenaeum, as well as performances across Europe, Japan, and Russia.
Advocates for living composers, The Trio has most recently commissioned Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon to write a new work for piano trio, A Vast Palette, which will premiere during the 2025-2026 season and appear at Neave’s London debut at Kings Place. Neave has also commissioned works by Augusta Read Thomas, Eric Nathan, Roberto Sirota, Leah Reid, Robert Paterson, and Dale Trumbore.
The Neave Trio releases its next album, In Her Hands, on Chandos Records in February 2026. Before La Mer, recent releases include Rooted (Chandos, 2024), A Room of Her Own (Chandos, 2024), and Musical Remembrances (Chandos, 2022), which earned a GRAMMY® nomination in the Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble category. Earlier recordings include Her Voice (Chandos, 2019), Celebrating Piazzolla (Azica, 2018), French Moments (Chandos, 2018), and their debut, American Moments (Chandos, 2016).
Members of the Neave are dedicated educators, and the trio currently serves as the inaugural Ensemble-in-Residence at Virginia Commonwealth University.
